Monster MP PRO 5100 12-Outlet Power Center with Stage 4 Clean Power Review

I bought this unit to solve a 60hz hum issue.(I have a mini-fridge and window AC unit in my AV room). It solved the hum, but the caveat was that 2 of the 8 outlets didn't work. For a unit that is valued at $800, how hard is it for them to check all the outlets before it ships out. I returned it and ended up with a APC unit that was less expensive and also had voltage regulation capability. The unit does what it says, but not any better that products for less money. Not to mention if your looking for a surge solution Brickwall surge units in combination with a legitimate UPS is really the way to go.

Tripp-Lite HT2210ISOCTR 2-Outlet Home Theater Isobar A/V Power Center (5100 Joules) Review

This unit is very compact and fits perfectly behind a wall mounted lcd. While the unit is fairly small in size it weighs more than much bigger surge protectors that i have elsewhere. Also at 5100 joules it offers some major protection for your flat panel. The short cord is just right to keep things nice and neat. I read many reviews on Tripp-Lite products and how they saved others components from actual lightening strikes while other components using cheap surge protectors got fried. One less thing to worry about. At just over $30 on special its a no brainer.

Update: I attached an image of this mounted. You can see it by clicking on customer images. If you look you will see it has two green LED's that are lit. The reason why I mention this is that the center one is not lit. After reading the manual that center one that is not lit indicated that the ground to the power center was not correct. As it turned after checking the outlet I found the polarity was reversed even though the outlet was grounded. Using a test light i confirmed the outlet had the hot and neutral wires reversed. After fixing this now all three lights are lit and I know its properly connected and protected. The other two LED's light green to tell you 1) the surge compression components are intact and providing full protection for you component 2) Indicates nominal AC power is present with no wiring faults detected.

This indicator lights are not just for show and do work.

APC H10BLK AV 1kVA H Type Power Conditioner Review

APC AV H10BLK Home Th 1000VA Power Filter: I purchased this product to protect my HDTV/Receiver/PS3/Klipsch setup.The unit arrived in it's original packing & box within a larger box that had space for the unit to slide around in.Not the best pack job for shipping.After reading the manual I proceeded with the setup.So far so good.It all worked fine.A half a day later I tried to watch TV and could not get the system to work.I troubleshot the H10 and it seemed faulty.I disconnected the H10 and the system worked fine so it appeared I had a inoperative unit.A phone call later I had a RMA number and a new unit was shipped.It arrived 2 days later the same way the first one did.WTF.I reconnected and as of 2 weeks later no problems so I am quite satisfied.APC responded well.During a very hot day I could watch the low voltage light come on for several minutes at a time meaning a minor brownout.Other than that I have had no other indications of the operation of the unit except to monitor the indicator lights on the front panel.COnnecting all my equipment was a breeze and it did remove some of the tangled mess of wires behind my setup.

APC ProtectNet 100BT/10BT/TR Ethernet Protector Review

I don't own this specific APC product, but I do own other APC products.

My home was hit by lightning on July 2, 2004 during a severe lightning storm. Both of my garage door openers were destroyed during the strike and they were on separate NET3 power line surge protectors made by APC.

NET3 surge protectors offer the best ($50,000) damaged equipment warranty that APC offers. APC refuses to pay for replacement garage door openers since in their determination, the surge protectors are functioning properly (I had to send the surge protectors at my expense for analysis at their labs).

I will never contend that a surge protector can protect any device from a direct lightning strike, but the APC warranty contends that they will replace your equipment in the event this unfortunate event occurs.

I now do not recommend APC equipment, since their warranty is worthless.

The only glitch is that the adhesive for the velcro patches that secure the item to the wall are not strong enough. The optional (but included) wall mounting brackets are actually necessary to keep the item up.

I bought this item in Jan 2001 just before a trip to Europe. I found it convenient for several reasons. One, it tells you if an outlet has power, if it's grounded properly, and if you're protected (three little lights on top).Two, it comes with two grounded outputs (one on either side) which are great for whatever extra appliance needs to be plugged in (your friend's powerbook, a lamp at the table, an external firewire drive, etc).Both of these outputs leave plenty of room for the extra wide converters that sometimes come with periferals.Three, it offers one telephone input, and two outputs (one for modem, one for fax or telephone).This means you can tap in anywhere (a hotel room, a friend's place, etc) and, when you're not using your modem, you don't need to replug-in the telephone.
I found it to be great for working at coffee shops and for any trips within the US.
One warning:I have only one criticism, which isn't entirely the fault of Cutris, but as it's a companion to a laptop, Curtis could have included some instructions not to plug it into a foreign outlet. Basically, it's a different voltage which is not at all grounded, I'm not even sure it could have worked even with a converter.Maybe they thought this was obvious. Regardless, I mistakenly plugged it (alone - no computer connected) into a hotel socket in Paris to the welcome of a gigantic spark and a quick shock. The lights went out across my wing of the hotel. Anyway, a warning not to try this yourself.
I still give the item a great review. Suprisingly few surge protectors offer two tel-out jacks, especially on a portable.I bought a second one once I returned.

This unit is really good at what it does. For its cost (on Amazon/Half) it is pretty much impossible to find a comparable unit. The only downside of this unit is that the battery backup has trouble providing sufficient power to high-draw devices. The two battery backed-up sockets were unable to operate my computer and monitor. However, considering the size and power draw of both items, it isn't exactly surprising, I just would have been thoroughly excited if the device could sustain that power draw through the battery backup. Otherwise, I have no complaints. After having spent nearly a thousand dollars each year to repair broken equipment in my house, I decided to try out some premium power protection. I have not had any issues since I got this and have noticed an increase in the performance of my power-sensitive devices. Obviously this will not improve the operation of devices with power converters, but it will ensure that any such devices aren't damaged by bad power.

I highly recommend this product to anyone who has experienced power issues in their home, or for anyone who rents and can never be sure about the quality of the power in their residence.

This is heavy stuff. An excellent piece of equipment that works no matter what. The quality of the power in my house is really bad. Every time the fridge goes on, there is a brown-out. With all my home theater equipment hooked up to this baby, there's no more picture flickering or drop in sound level. Highly recommended. Please be aware of the following though; You do not get any filtering whatsoever with this unit. You must also get a surge protector or a more advanced filter unit to take care of those problems. The AVS 2000 only correct the voltage, nothing more. Comes with an 8ft beefy AC cable and must be hooked up to a grounded (3-prong) outlet.

I ordered one of these 300 watt/120 VAC EN600's for use with my DirecTv DVR/receiver and home theater system. In our area, We seem to get more than our share of power interuptions.

I got tired of being "glitched" while watching a TV program, since the DirecTV DVR takes like 10 minutes to reboot itself after even a quick power interuption.

This UPS isolates, surge protects, and sources power for a substantial period of time, (load dependent - of course). It has 6 receptacles that perform its various capabilities. (Note that not all receptacles provide the same type of protection).

I have a whole-house generator to use in the case of total power "outages" and this unit maintains uninterupted power to my entire AV system (includes 56" HDTV, Suround Sound Reciever/processor, & DVD player) easily for 15 minutes, while I do the manual "switch-over" from "the grid" to my generator.

It would be great for those looking for PC protection as well and comes with an automatic "orderly shutdown" capability over the USB port.

It is a little "pricey" perhaps, but is probably cheapest in its class while a very high quality unit by comparison.

What is a power surge and why should you worry about protecting your equipment? A power surge is a form of electrical power disturbance of which there are four main types:

It comes nicely package in a box with all the features printed on the outside. In the box along with the 10 outlet surge protector with a 10 ft. power cord are cables for phone/DSL, Coax/DSS and Ethernet. I have cable broadband and it was easy to reconnect through the Fellowes Surge Protector.

The 10 outlets are wide spaced to fit 6 standard AC adaptors. The outlets are color coded with included colored power cord tags to match the sockets for easy cord ID. Child safety coversswivel closed if not in use is a very nice safety feature. The plug is right angled to hug the wall and surge shield and ground indicator lights confirm proper operation and protection is on. Other specs are 3,300 joules (The International System unit of electrical, mechanical, and thermal energy), EMI/RFI noise filtering, illuminated on/off switch and 15-amp circuit breaker, LED indicator lights, and catastrophic fuse.

Fellowes will repair or replace any electronic equipment damaged by a power surge while properly connected to this surge protector up to a maximum of $150,000. We purchase insurance policies for our home and auto so why not for our computers and other electronic equipment? I would highly recommend this product for its features, design, ease of use and reliability. It is a small price to pay to protect your expensive electronicequipment.

There are two issues I had with this surge protector, aside from that it's ok.Firstly, I have a laptop to which I've added many USB peripherals.Because USB isn't the best, my USB audio system tends to make poping sounds every now and then.This problem is much more frequent on this surge protector than with a similar surge protector by SurgeArrest.More significantly, I found that On Demand doesn't work when using the cable protection (the audio frequently completely drops out for something like a second, and the video also occasionally breaks up).I'm convinced that other surge protectors are a bit better than this one.

Monster MP HTFS-IW HC In-Wall PowerCenter for Custom Installations Review

The Monster MP HTFS-IW HC In Wall Power Center was a logical choice for my new Sharp LCD TV.I mounted the PowerCenter on the wall and used an optional (did not come with) HDMI in-wall dual outlet in place of the provided coax connectors plate.

I had some installation issues that need to be pointed out. The wires for the power center are three stranded and three solid wires.The instructions say to connect the line power in to the solid wires and connect the stranded wires to the duplex outlet with ring terminals.A label on the unit says to connect the other way.

The duplex outlet included is not the Decora style rectangular design as shown, it is a common round duplex outlet. A plastic cover is included to fit over the outlet to make it look like a Decora outlet.

The enclosed offset power cable is nice, but it does not work on my TV.It appears to be made for A/V or computer power connection.

Once the installation is complete, the setup is slick and looks good. The status leds can be switched on/off.
I have my 40" LCDTV plugged into it now and it appears to be working beautifully.I'll know soon enough with the spring storm season upon us.

It is covered by a 2-year warranty, plus up to $250,000 maximum coverage on connected equipment for 2 years.

Belkin F9S820-06 SurgeMaster Superior Series 6-Feet 1770 Joules 8-Outlet Surge Protector Review

On July 7 2007 I received from Amazon the Monster Cable MP AV600 Power Protectorand the Belkin SurgeMaster Superior Series 8-Outlet Surge Protector (6', 1770 Joules).They both sold for about the same price. The Monster is vastly inferior. The Belkin has three times the Joules rating. The Belkin is much more attractive and well designed. The Monster is just a squarish standard strip that felt very cheap compared to the Belkin and worst of all the Monster had a bad rubber stink and the cord felt gritty. The Belkin had a smooth white power cord. My other mistake was to get the Belkin with the 6 foot cord , I realized a 12 foot cord was available after ordering. You will be MUCH happier with the Belkin. I will post this exact review with the Monster at 1 star as well. Last time I gave something 1 star Amazon did not display it. Maybe the higher end Monster models are nicer.

Southwestern Bell S60860 Travel Telephone Surge Protector Review

After going through about eight answering machines and telephones and grumbling about how "phones these days are such cheap, crappy product-simulations designed to be chucked in a landfill every six months," I spotted one of these little devices in a grocery store and installed it.Lo and behold, turns out it was NOT the phones that were the problem, but just our unstable electric service.

After installing this surge protector, not only did the answerphone stop blowing out, so did all of the phones in the rest of the house.Tuns out, answering machines and cordless phones, since they are plugged in to the electrical system, not only make the phone they are attached to vulnerable, but also any hits they take can travel throughout your home's phone lines and mess up every other phone you have, too!But I haven't had any trouble since starting to use these devices.

Be aware, though, these devices themselves are NOT indestructible.Keep an occasional eye on them - if the little red light goes off, that means they have taken a hit and need to be replaced.I keep a spare around now. Replacing a $10 device every year or so sure beats replacing a phone or two every couple of months!

iGo PM00011-0001 Green Power Smart Tower Review

My husband and I have been trying to "green" our home for some time. Curbing vampire electricity is something that he wanted to solve right around the time iGo was brought to our attention.It took less than 5 minutes to install the iGo tower.We use it for our computer, speakers, monitor and a few other things and we use the USB ports to charge our iPhones and iTouch since all of the plugs are taken by other devices.What I like about the tower also is that there are ports that will not shut down for items like a wireless modem that, at least in our house, need to remain on all of the time.

We've had it for over a month and weren't sure if we'd see a difference in our electrical bill or not since our house is of decent size and it would be tough to gauge.We had some house guests that used more energy than normal, we're sure. Our bill since the iGo was exactly the same as the month prior. My husband is convinced having the iGo saves a little $. What I'm happiest about is that the iGo is in a cabinet that our desktop computer box sits in.Despite keeping the cabinet door open and a vent in the back, the area used to get warm and I'd hear our computer rev up.It doesn't get nearly as hot as it used to.

I will add that I received this product complimentary due to my website, but wasn't under any obligation to write an Amazon review. I can tell you with 100% certainty we'll be adding more iGo products to our home at our own cost.

Belkin F6C550-AVR 550VA Battery Backup with Surge Protection Review

Before buying any UPS, do some homework. It's not as simple as reading the watts sticker on your computer. Get to know what volt-amps means and decide if you need lots of battery run time or not. I believe many people end up buying too much UPS capacity (which is fine if you can afford it) because mfgrs' "wizards" are not very accurate. This unit, with its fairly low rating, is fine for my needs:

My requirements are to protect my equipment from surges and sags, to give me enough time to save and shut down when the power fails, and to run my DSL modem and WiFi base station for a few hours off and on during an extended outage (we get hurricanes on Cape Cod). I do not need server-class UPS backup, meaning automated shutdown and lengthy run time.

This unit works great for all of the above. It would not run my iMac G4 for very long beyond an emergency shutdown, but that's fine in my case.

The supplied (and downloadable new versions) of Bulldog software are terrible, however. I did not downgrade the unit's star rating for that because you don't need it.

On my Mac, Bulldog only served to display annoying false warnings and would lose connection with the UPS whenever the computer sleeps. Don't even bother installing it.
