Belkin 6 Outlets In Wall SurgeMaster Surge Protector 885 Joules Review

We were in the mountains, on vacation as the Storm blew in from down south. It was like a classic nor'easter, the one that acted more like a passing hurricane. As the winds blew, we felt confident about our own situation, walking out for an afternoon hike as the Storm left a gorgeous blue sky.

That evening, we learned that the power was out in Dad's home. Someone watching the homestead had come back from work and discovered the power completely out. The next morning, we learned that the electric man was outside since our home was the only one without power. After the electricity came back on, our friend noticed some flashing in the den. Checking on the trouble, flames spewed out of the outlet, licking up the wall. A quick decision to grab a fire extinguisher doused the fire, which savedthe home from complete destruction.

The unit that failed, from our observation, and the check by an electrician, was the Belkin SurgeMaster (model F9H600aCW, Listed E175473). Upon inspection, the SurgeMaster flamed inside, and the heat dispersed on the lower left side of the unit. The scorching melted and burned the lower left side, and fire also spewed out of several of the outlets.

Another SurgeMaster, plugged in a different room, reacted to a surge, it seems, as a slight dimple was created just below the "Belkin" logo on the rear of the unit, between the listing number and model number. It also has the scent of scorching, with a slightly blackened flare below the lower center hole where the grounding outlet is.

Well, the obvious: A good surge protector will mostly, protect the home. This unit was a fire hazard, and the ultimate failure. Other units in our home had different levels of surge protection, and they also had interior flares, but none had the kind of dangerous reaction such as this.
