The on-battery alarm CANNOT be disabled with the software if you are running it on a Mac. The alam CAN be disabled with software if you are running it on a PC.

This means that if you plan to use this unit on a Mac and you really want to disable the annoying alarm that beeps every 30 seconds when the system goes to battery power you have one choice: Install the unit and software on a PC first and disable the alarm through the PC interface. Then install the unit and software on your Mac with the alarm now disabled. If you don't have a PC available to act as a SWITCH like this, then you are out of luck and you will have no way to turn off the ear-splitting alarm.

I bought the monster EP IR2450 I can't say anything to exciting I mean its a fancy Surge Suppressor. This is a very good looking unit, It works great. The only problem I have had with it is I mounted the IR reciever next to my Vizio VT420M tv and had to move it to a location farther from the tv to get it to work. Something with the backlight from the tv or just interferrence not really sure. If you look at any other systems that transfer remote signals in this fashion it sounded like they all have this problem with the lcd tvs. But yeah for the price its great and once you work the bugs out of the ir receiver its wonderful all of my components tv dvd cable box ect. are hidden in a cupboard where i don't have to look at them! And the thing is supposed to cut power if voltage goes to high or to low which is great because we have brown outs frequently. Also monster hooks you up with more ir eyes for you equipment than you will need and some other stuff(cable wire etc.)

Monster HDP 1800 8-Outlet Power Center with Stage 2 Clean Power Review

Looks like I get to be the first to write a review for this thing.

First off, I will say that Monster makes some of the most overpriced stuff the world has ever seen. I would never, and I mean never buy Monster cables for anything. There are so many cheaper alternatives to their cables that cost about $5 bucks. Having said that, I would never, and I mean never pay retail for one of their surge protectors or power centers. However, I was able to get the HDP1800 for a pretty good deal so I jumped at it. Monster makes some really nice stuff, it's just way overpriced.

Now that I got that out of the way, after having spent some time with the HDP1800 I will say it's a fantastic little power center. Don't put too much stock in the thought that it will make your picture better. The only way you'll likely see video or hear audio improvement is if you live in a really old house, with really old wiring, or in an area that has a lot of electronic interference. Basically, what this thing comes down to is being a very nice surge suppressor/protector. I have another really nice surge strip from Tripplite and it's fantastic.

The reason I really wanted an actual power center (Monster or another brand) was because I like how it can sit on your TV stand or equipment rack along with everything else. You can make sure all the proper protection lights are running and the HDP1800 even shows you the voltage, granted it's not really necessary, but it's a nice little plus. The lights and display can be dimmed to about 4 different levels and completely turned off as well. It's also nice to have all the cables condensed to the TV stand and not all around behind it where a surge protector sits. Another thing I didn't like about an actual surge protector strip is mine was very hard to access. I have a corner TV stand with a 46" TV and a ton of stuff on the shelves. So trying to get behind that to plug anything new in was a pain to say the least. A power center is right on the shelf, nice and accessible.

As far as video and audio go, it all looks great when running through the HDP1800. Everything looks as it should and my system sounds terrific! I've only used it for a few days so obviously I can't comment on the protection aspect as I haven't been through any bad storms or anything, but knowing Monster makes good stuff, although overpriced, I have no doubt this thing will protect my equipment, no problem. It also has Ethernet, coax and phone line inputs. It's very slim, it's quite light and the new design on these things really make them look sharp. Add on the fact that they have a 5 year warranty through Monster on them which is 2 years more then most other good companies and sometimes 4 years more than other companies makes this a good buy.

In conclusion, this is a great, solid built piece of equipment. If you can get it for a deal then it is a dang nice surge protector/ power conditioner. Just don't get suckered into paying retail for it. If you do pay retail for it you're still getting a really nice piece of equipment, but there is no need to pay so much when there are good online deals.

Great product and comes with cables included.Check the Panamax website for which internet dealers are "authorized" so that they will honor the $5 million warranty for equipment that is connected to this thing.From what I understand, Panamax will honor the warranty on the actual surge protector, but may not honor the warranty for what's connected to it unless you buy through the right dealer.

I wish the outlets were spaced a bit more for some of my large adapters, but I still get almost everything on there anyways.

APC PER7T Personal Surge Arrest Protector with Telephone Review

When I first bought this product a couple of years ago, the driving reason was APC's reputation and the price of the unit.I had worked with some APCUPSs in my job and was impressed with the quality of the product.
Well,last week this product earned it's keep.Lightning struck a tree not morethan 30 feet from our house.It fried one TV, 2 VCRs, and other items (notprotected by APC products, but by other generic power strip surgesuppresors).
However my computer was hooked up to one of these units, andit came through without a scratch.Our phone lines took a hit and had tobe replaced from the street.Fortunately I had my modem line run throughthe Surge Arrest, so the modem was fine.The Surge Arrest does appear tohave lost it's telephone line protection capability (dial tone at the wall,no dial tone after the Surge Arrest), but it's a small price to pay.
APC does have a product replacement policy for lightning strikes.Iprobably could get my unit replaced, but you know, I'm just going to buy anew one.The power outlets still work and I'll just use the old unit forother electronics.
One final note, the lightning strike apparently alsoentered our cable TV system.Our area is getting cable modem service soonand I am concerned about protecting that path into my computer.APC doesmake two products tha protect cable lines, but not many places sell themyet.I'm looking for them now as I want to protect my new TV/VCRs.

But, that's not what impressed me the most about this product.I was really impressed when I called Tripp Lite about the incident.They ask about the equipment that was plugged into the HTPOWERBAR10, then took my name and address and mailed out a new HTPOWERBAR10.Received in the mail 2 days later.The HTPOWERBAR10 took the power hit and did not let the surge go any further.I wish I had all my equipment plugged-in to Tripp Lite products.I also, just purchased a smaller unit(Tripp Lite brand)for my new computer.Don't let your expebnsive audio/video or computer equipment go unprotected!Best investment you can make for the safety of your electronic equipment!!!!!!

I purchased this product both from Amazon and WallyWorld. The Amazon description here is NOT correct. Philips item # SPP2136WA/17 is 960 joules (not 450 joules). The Philips website also shows SPP2136WA/17 to be a 960 joule product.

When I ordered this item from Amazon, I did receive the 960 joule product, despite the description here of 450 joules.

You actually WANT the higher joule product, of course. More joules means more protection.

The picture of the actual item - it's shape and color - IS correct. However the picture of the box - depicting a 450 joule product - IS NOT correct. The actual box looks just like the picture - except it is labeled 960 joules. I uploaded a picture to prove it.

The difference is meaningful. Posters/reviewers on various websites seemed to recommended a minimum of 750 joules to adequately protect your home electronic devices from typical surge.

I replaced most of my original in-home surge protection (based on very cheap power strips & plugs as found in Walgreens and such) with this 960 joule product and also the CyberPower 750 7-Outlet 1250 Joule Home Office Surge Suppressor. Taken together, I figure I am now pretty well protected.

The surge strip is supposed to control a number of devices when the master plug detects an on/off.So when you turn the master device on, the power strip is supposed to turn on all the other switched plugs.

This seems to work great for a computer.I have 3 of these surge strips and they seem to work great for computers.However I'm trying to control it with an xbox which should work, because the xbox draws about 4 watts during power off.The surge strip states that it works with devices that draw less than 10 watts during power off (or sleep mode), but this doesn't seem to be quite the case.

I used an 880 to hook up my A/V equipment: a TV, DVD player, VCR, amplifier, and an XBox. There was a power outage in my community. After power was restored, the VCR and XBox would not power up. Everything else connected to the 880 worked fine. I had my VCR and XBox checked out and both were fried by the power surge. I submitted a warranty to CyberPower and got a new 880 in the mail immediately. The warranty process was very smooth and very quick. CyberPower paid me 50% of what I originally paid for the VCR and XBox. Their warranty clearly states that they will only pay fair market value of the damaged equipment.

On one hand, I can't recommend CyberPower because I got a defective surge suppressor. But on the other hand, the warranty claim process was pretty smooth. I was lucky I kept the receipts for the 880, my VCR, and my XBox. I definitely wouldn't recommend connecting your most valuable electronics with this surge suppressor. You should consider a UPS even if it's just for surge suppression. The circuitry in UPS is much better quality-wise than surge suppressor outlets.

Kensington 62146C SmartSockets Basic 6-Outlet Color-Coded Power Strip and Surge Protector Review

This is a sturdy and attractive surge protector. It's obviously well made, the colors look nice (I've gotten quite a few complements, which is funny, for a surge protector). It's kind of overpriced to be honest, but I liked my first one so much I bought a second one for the office a couple years later.

Unlike some surge protectors I've had in the past, the sockets don't melt (scary, huh?) and plugs slide firmly in or out but are held with a firm grip.

Belkin AG110030-04 Energy Saving Surge Strip for Home Theater Review

I waited over 6 months to get my hands on these.I saw reviews back in Feb. 2008 and started searching. None for sale. Belkin site said summer. Got to be summer and in July Belkin site said September. Started searching again in September and no retailers listing it.Then I spotted 1 small search results buried in all the others.WalMart (sorry Amazon) online had the 10 outlet version for sale. Got a friend with a WalMart account to buy 4 for me. Final price was $34 each, shipped! They were dropped shipped direct from Belkin. Before they arrived the listing was gone from Walmart site (12/19 still not there).

I think Amazon (and Belkin) do a disservice by tagging this one with the Home Theater moniker. I use mine to control 4 PC monitors and several USB hard drives.

Item works as designed.Set the dip switches in the unit and remote to the same settings and you are now a power controlling monster! And if you need to control more than 8 devices set the 2nd unit to the same dip switch settings and 2 units will be controlled by the same remote.

While the unit has 2 outlets spaced apart from the others to allow controlling 'wall warts', wider spacing on all the outlets would have been better. The unit also can surge protect a coax connection. No telephone line protection, though.

Overall, I am happy with the item.

I should break down and get about a few more of them because I am thrilled with the design of this thing.10 outlets!And half of them are spaced apart from the others so that the wall warts will fit on there without encroaching upon any of the other outlets.Awesome.I have it mounted to my wall and while there's still a stinking mess of wires back there, at least I can get to them and behold:there are even 2 empty slots.

I'm not using the telephone cord surge protection feature, but I don't see that as a reason to penalize with less stars like some other character did in his review.So you don't want to plug your phone into this thing, don't plug in your phone.

The layout of this power strip and having a whopping 10 outlets is the bomb.As I type this review I look over at the thing and it makes me happy.I'm ordering a couple more right now.

I mainly bought this for its reliability, # of outlets and (most of all) the CleanPower feature.Funky / dirty AC power is one of the leading causes of shortened life expectancy for electronics.Some things I noticed:

Yes, it is plastic, but it has that good, thick plastic feel, NOT the cheap thin stuff that seems like it would crack when dropped.

It can be hung in virtually any direction (horiz, diag, vert) from two screws/nails by two plus-sign (+) hole patterns on the back of the unit.

The cord is long and thick.The plug is a wall-hugging 90-degree angle type that can be used in either the top or bottom outlet receptacle.Huh?It is not only wall-hugging but it doesnt hang straight down from the receptacle - imagine you plugged this into a clock face: the plug would be angled toward the "4" or "5" on the face so that you aren't limited to plugging it in the bottom plug.You could actually have two of these plugged into the same outlet.Enough about that...

The plug connectors are REALLY tight fitting.You'll see what I mean when you go to plug in the computer or whatever.ALL Monster outlets are this way, and are intended to help keep the plug from falling out or being ripped out by accident.Another way Monster Cable thinks about the small things that bug us.

Mine came with a phone cable that was a couple feet (or so) in length.Cool, now I can plug the fax through the connectors on the unit.(Nothing to report there.)

The power switch lights up in red.

Comes with labels to help indentify BOTH ends of the power cabes you are plugging in.

The three "transformer" positions are great for those old box plugs for the cameras and such.Plenty of room built in.

I HIGHLY recommend this unit for your computer!
