These are expensive devices, but I can see where the money goes; quality cabling, metering, etc., plus the inputs (outputs) are specific to the type of device (digital, analog, high-current)that it supports. I honestly don't hear the difference yet, but I'm usually running an amp on a higher gain level, so how can I say it cleans up the signal :)

Product order and delivered promptly -- all well-done.No way to test the unit itself, only lightning can test it.The specific item was recommended via a customer service call to APC, where I pointed out that all protective devices I had seen with a RJ-45 interface, were designed to protect Ethernet and I needed something specific for ISDN which involved phone lines. I feel a lot better about leaving things on during storms now -- before installing this protective device, the last lightning storm cost me over $85 for a new Cisco router.

APC PF11VT3 11-outlet SurgeArrest with Tel2/Splitter and Coax Protection Review

Unlike many power-strips/surge protectors I've bought in the past, the APC model PF11VT3 is well designed to accomodate all types of transformer plugs and regular power cords.The "Pivoting Strain Relief" cable makes it very convenient to set up in tight places and the cord management clip does a very nice job of keeping cords orderly.This review comes after only about 3 weeks owning so it's too early to see if the surge protection works (it may be working without me knowing it). I haven't hooked it up to a phone line, so no comment there.My one disappointment came when I hooked my coaxial cable up to the unit. My internet signal degraded to the point where I had to remove it and hook it back up directly to the cable modem. Documentation and instructions were very clear.Overall I like it and intend to buy another for a second computer (no cable hook up for this one).

Road Warrior International Modem Saver Plus International Retail Packaging Review

I bought 3 of these cause I have regular lightning occurances thru my phone line and don't want to replaced a multiple (outlet & phone-line)surge protector everytime I take a hit. A week after I bought (& and installed) it I had a lightning strike hit & wipe out my modem (the rest of the computer is OK). In other words "the lightning went right thru this protector with no problem" and in my opinion it's ineffective and I don't recommend it. -- I don't blame the seller -- they're just selling it, but they probably do need to know that this product isn't as effective as advertised.

Monster Reference PowerCenter HTS 3500 MKII Review

I was a mouse click or two from placing an order for this item, when I read a review for the PowerCenter 3600 Mk II, which pointed out that the 3600 wasn't a line conditioner (neither is the 3500). The reviewer confirmed that with Monster customer support.

What's a line conditioner? It's a unit that can adjust voltages that drop below or go above 120, back to 120. In the end, I bought a Tripp Lite Line Conditioner instead of the Monster 3500. It cost about the same, but would adjust voltages 87 - 140 back to 120, provides surge protection and noise suppression.

Perhaps the Monster units provide superior surge protection and noise cleaning, but it doesn't seem like they incorporated line conditioners into their PowerCenter products to actually stablize the voltage. They do have a line conditioner, the AVS 2000, but it'll burn a hole in your wallet, yet not provide surge protection or noise filtering. I don't understand why Monster doesn't provide an integrated power conditioning product.

I love the clean power.No extra noise on the TV or in the surround sound system.

Side note: Only thing that I wish it had was a either a "always on" plug or two power switches that controlled sections of plugs so that I could turn off all of the components that I rarely use while leaving on things like the DVR and wireless router.There are lots of ways to work around this, however it would just be nice to have it built in to a already sweet component like this.

Monster Cable MP HTS400 HP HT PowerCenter HTS400 Review

About two years ago lightening hit my phone line and destroyed everything that wasn't protected.My computer was connected through a Belkin Surgemaster and was spared.My satellite receiver was fried and the surge fed back out to the dish and also fried the LNB.After that I purchased an HTS 400 because besides the electrical connections, it also has phone line and satellite cable protection.I only gave it 4 stars because I couldn't see a difference in my TV reception.Last week I had an electrical malfunction which sent 240 through two circuits in my house.The HTS 400 was sacrificed but everything connected was spared.I will be getting a replacement for it but this time I'll get it from Amazon for half the price that I paid for the first one at Best Buy.

I own one of these and one of the non-signature series (red display).
(this is the same review that I wrote for the other ASV 2000)

If you invested a big pile of dough on a home A/V set up, why not feed it correctly. In the US our components are designed to run on 120 volts. But most average neighborhoods fluctuate (+ or -) 3 - 4 volts at all times. On really hot nights where everyone has their A/C on, it can fluctuate up to 8 or 9 volts.

This bad boy locks everything in at an even 120 volts. So your TV or stereo isn't having to make the adjustments itself, it can just focus on performing without any power stress.

As others have noted, make sure to use a good quality surge protector. I personally use the Monster HTS 3600 MKII.

My favorite part is the big displays. I find myself just watching the voltage readout it to see what the power rating is. The voltage display just tells you what you are feeding your components. The amp display helps you keep an eye out if you might have left a component on and didn't mean to. My kids are always leaving the DVD player or stereo on. If you notice a high amp readout, you know something was left on. My components are behind dark glass, it is hard to see if items are left on.

This 75 lb. beast will take up some space and has to be put on a very strong shelf. You will reserve the "lowest" shelf for your entertainment system for this bad boy. Consider it the anchor of your system.

Monster EP 3650 10-Outlet Infrared Power Center with Stage 3 Clean Power Review

I just purchased a new plasma flat panel and a blue ray player to add to my home theatre system including a Sony ES receiver, cd/dvd changer, VCR and xbox 360.I wanted more then a simple power strip for power conditioning and to make my wife happy I needed to purchase a plasma console that hides my electronic treasures so they don't dominate our living room.The issue for me, looking for IR repeater systems to remotely operate my equipment, I found a few but were either on the expensive side and not worth the money since I don't have long distances to wire or very cheaply made built with differnt manufacturer parts.When I was researching power conditioners I found the Monster Empowered Power Center Ep 3650 with IR Repeater functionality built in.Monster sells a lower line for those who like to spend less and can live with Stage 2 filtering.The EP3650 was just the answer to what I and I assume many others are looking for.Leave it to Monster to look outside of the box and provide a decent power conditioner with IR functionality.This device has stage 3 filtering which I believe is in the middle of Monster's line of capabilities and is enough for my needs. I found that the picture and audio are clearer now with this unit and a few times we had brown-outs and the system properly reacted and shut down protecting my precious new plasma.There are also inputs for for cable, phone and network connections so this device can protect just about everything I need.I like the bright blue LED display which is switchable between showing amps and volts, the display can be dimmed or brightened to either no display at all or a vibrant blue display that will satisfy us who like glowing blue lights (makes a great night light if the unit's display is visible).You can also either run a trigger lead from one of your pieces of equipment to switch the "switched" outlets on and off or use the front panel of this unit to switch them.My only feedback for improvement to Monster would be to increase the 'bite" that the outlets have, they seemed a bit loose to me however have not had any plugs come out unless you pull the unit out without first checking to see if you have enough cord length available to pull the unit out.As for the IR functionality, the front top and bottom of the faceplate has light blue IR receivers on it so if the unit is visible you can use it to receive your remote signals.In the back it has 6 IR outlets that you can run two IR eyelets each for a total of 12 devices that it can send signals to.Monster provides two each of 2 eyelet cables and one each of a single eyelet cables and one remote receiver to pick up your remote signals for in the case like me where all of my equipment is hidden inside of my console.I was expecting some sort of delay in signals but pleasantly surprised to have found none.My Pannasonic plasma has a small IR window at the bottom of the set that is not too good nor sensitive.I found that the IR functionality of the empower to be more sensitive and improved my remote's cabability (Logitech Harmony 659), I can now pretty much forget about precisley aiming at the plasma's small IR window.I also have the IR eyelets installed in the console on my Panasonic BD30 blueray, xbox360, Sony ES receiver, Sony 100 disk changer, Sony VCR all with no problems.I have had the empower for about a month and I have not experienced one missed command on any device, and believe it or not when playing my xbox360 I have not noticed any lag in commands whatsoever so I am quite pleased with the IR Performance.Overall I am very pleased with this product and would recomend it to anyone with the need for decent power conditioning/protection and IR repeater functionality. Everyone who comes over is very surpised to see no visible equipment but full remote functionality, plus my wife is happy that my equipment is descretely hiddend within our console furniture, that with full IR perfomance is a big win for all in our family.

I loved my network-able Blue-ray player I purchased, but I hated the wireless adapter which left me always praying my Netflix or U-tube content would actually play.Same with my networkable TV, I'd always lose the radio or the news.My PS3 online gaming was a joke wirelessly.I dreaded running a network cable from my livingroom into my bedroom.Such a downer for such great products.

However, I found this little device and AMAZINGLY everything works flawlessly!It's literally plug and play.High-speed networking that's virtually wireless!!! You need one on your router end to plug "wire" a Cat5/ethernet cable into and one for wherever you want to have a "wired" connection for your equipment.You use a Cat5/ethernet cable to "wire" your components into the Monster PowerNet which is plugged into the wall.No cables between rooms, only between your router to PowerNet which plugs into the outlet and one from your components to the PowerNet 200 or 300.

You may have to reset your components from wireless to wired, but after that, it just works!NO more jagged netflix, waiting for info to load, missed songs or slow online gaming.It actually downloads the best quality off netflix.I'm really happy with this.I'm used to wiring and setting up computers, home theatre, and complicated set-ups.I was really amazed at how easy it was.

Good luck and buy it!It really is worth it if you use networkable products, or even if you have a wireless deadspot in your home.I'm glad I found this because it's much cheaper than running network cables through my home which was going to run me ($3,000-$4,500).

BTW the difference between the PowerNet 300 and PowerNet 200 is the PowerNet 300 allows for more than one component (4 ethernet ports) in a room.The PowerNet 200 has only one ethernet connection.The PowerNet 200 & 300 also gives you some surge protection & line conditioning (clean power filtering) which erases some of the "buzz/noise" or interference in your walls to give a faster connection.

Ok, I'm fed up w/ these units.
The best this thing has ever done for me is keep a lamp on once. So that was my foul up for not having it plugged in correctly but I became veeery meticulous after that.
When I bought the first one years ago it claimed 5 minutes of power to shut down. Back then it had a phone to usb cord to connect it to the computer. The software monitored things and I could see it, neat. I put a power strip between it and the wall plug and tested it. It worked, but when the power really went out it failed. >(
So last year I bought a new unit figuring the battery was old and tired. The new unit had no usb port or anything to communicate w/ the computer????Maybe Windows just has ups software built in these days.I trusted the old one to protect my TV and old computer. The battery must have been so old it randomly died and took everything w/ it.No power outage, or anything. :[
The new one I trusted on my new computer, but how does it communicate????It doesn't is the answer. I tried the old software CD, played w/ Windows, and fiddled long enough to gain confidence that the computer knew the battery was there.2 power outages and 2 failures later I gave up trying to make it work.

I know this just sounds like a lame horror story but I am really fed up.I can work computers well enough.I've gotten headaches trying to make these things work.I'm really baffled by no cable and no wireless anything w/ the new one.The new battery should have been fresh enough.I paid good money, but it just isn't working for me.I'm going back to a plane old power strip.
I give it 2 stars that it may work for someone.Or that I didn't use the incredible 4 pictures worth of instructions.

My company deployed several of these units at overseas locations.One location had a problem with a unit getting very hot, so I brought it into the lab for analysis.What I found was appalling.Every solder joint was cold and a slight tug was able to break it loose or break the few remaining wire strands loose from the joint.Most joints had nearly half of the wire strands broken away from the soldered connection. This effectively cut the current carrying capacity in half.

I then pulled every unit from our stock room (approximately 12) and individually opened them for inspection.Without exception, everyone was of equal crappiness.

After reworking every connection in every unit, I set one up for bench testing.I ran the unit at 50% of the rated power for 4 hours and noticed no anomalies.I then increased the load to approximately 90% of the rated value and within 30 minutes the plastic 110V connector on the front of the unit began to melt, so I shut the test down.

The model that I tested was the Simran 3000 watt unit, but I have no doubt that every model that comes from that company is of equal workmanship.The units are built in China, with blatantly unqualified labor.

If you are handy with a soldering iron, these units can be made to do what they are supposed to do.That's why I gave it one star.I would, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE, use one of these things without opening and reworking it first.I would also de-rate its maximum rating to 60%.In other words, I would not operate the 750 watt unit at loads over 450 watts.Be warned, this is a dangerous piece of junk if not reworked!

P3 International P4320 Kill-A-Watt Power Strip Review

I've been using the standard (roughly) $25 KAW for years and love them. This newer unit is in the form of a "powerstrip" which.. includes a plug in cord, so makes it much easier to place the meter in an easy-to-read location. It also is lit, AND... unlike the original, stores the readings so you can unplug and move it around. (The traditional model, still available, resets to "zero" when unplugged.)
My only hesitation is that the one I purchased was intermittently dead on usage and I had to, at my expense, ship it back to the distributor for replacement. Aside from that big annoyance and concern, I love both versions and use them frequently.
(because of that hiccup I'd suggest checking the "return" policies of the store).

APC BE550R 550VA Back-UPS ES 8-Outlet Battery Backup System Review

At first, I thought this thing was the tops. It performed well in several power outages/fuse problems/spikes (I'm in a 1939 building & my office has mostly original wiring). After about 8 months, half of the plugs quit working altogether. I moved my important stuff to the other 3 plugs and took everything else off backup. We didn't have a power outage for a long time, so I don't know when the backup quit working on the rest, but it doesn't work anymore, although the alarm still sounds and the power light is still on. But anything plugged in will shut off with a power loss. Overall, I've owned it less than a year and a half. At this point, it's a very expensive extension cord. But the price has gone way down (it's less than half what I paid) from when I purchased mine. Either way, I'm paying more and going for a different brand for the replacement.

OPTI-UPS ES1000C Enhanced Series 8-Outlet Line Interactive Uninterruptible Power Supply (700W, 1000VA) Review

I have not had to push the limits of time of this backup, but it seems fine. I tested it for a few minutes... I have tried and not been successful in getting the computer to "see" it so it can auto shut down the computer if I am not present during a power outage. Not sure what the problem is and don't have the time or interest in trying to pursue it via tech support. It hooks up via serial cable. I would think a modern appliance would use USB and be more reliable. I am running Win XP Pro.
I do like it though because of the size (time it's supposed to run on battery power) for the relatively low price.

APC H15BLK AV 1.5kVA H Type Power Conditioner Review

Purchased this for my home theater and the H15 has worked flawlessly since day one.I'm amazed that my home power is actually fairly stable, the filter mainly kicks in when I start to power everything up.The unit is extremely easy to setup and looks good too.It's nice to see how much power is being used and when there are any drops or spikes.There is a slight clicking sound, but it's hardly noticable unless you're right next to the unit.The display is dimmable which is good for dark rooms/setups.
I purchased the H15 wanting to make sure I had enough headroom for all of my home theater.Based on my initial calculations of power usage, I would have come close to actually maxing out the unit, but in daily use, I use no more than 40% of the capacity of H15.This includes a 32" TV, HD projector, retractable screen, receiver, DVD player, DVR and WII unit, network switch and remote control center.
If you're building your home theater and considering a power conditioner, you absolutely cannot go wrong with the H10 or H15.I've worked with APC products for years both on the home and commerical (data center) side and their products are very reliable and cost effective, especially considering the value of what you are protecting.

Belkin seems to offer the best lineup of surge protectors. They have a nice variety of solutions. I am very satisfied with the two models I purchased. Only one dissapointment: it was very difficult to insert a two blade (ungrounded) plug into the sockets. I had to fiddle with my plugs, which were all new or in good condition. It actually took a very high force to insert some of them. They are not just tight, there is an interference. I don't understand why such a basic function of the unit should be so difficult.
